The Good News of Jesus Christ
As humans, everyone commits sin. "Sin" means evil in God's eyes. Anything from a little lie to full-blown murder are considered sins!
Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Our actions earn us rewards. Unfortunately, the "reward" for sin is death. This death is more than just physical; it is eternal separation from God.
Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Someone had to die. When Christ died on the cross, He died for all of us, taking our punishment.
Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Salvation, which means eternal life with God in heaven, is acquired by believing in the truth that Jesus really died for you, and His death paid for your debt.
Romans 10:9 - "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Once you've believed, you have an eternal relationship with God! This means that you can communicate openly with Him, and He will always answer (1 Jn 5:14-15), and you will never be condemned for your sins. On top of that, you are also now the recipient of many of God's promises to His children (2 Cor 1:20)!
Romans 5:1 - "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
